To be honest, I despise that Linux reviews include so much space for the installation process. I don't see the point for seeing EVERY screen through the install and came very close to not including this part in my reviews all together. However, on the off chance people actually read this, and especially for new Linux types, or people considering Linux, I'll do my part and include it.
I used a live USB for installation (multisystem....I love that thing).
The default live desktop:
| Live USB Home screen |
| Select your language |
| Install the third-party software! |
I would strongly urge you to check the "install third-party software" box here. It's much easier than installing it post-install
I never download updates here, but you can if you want. It makes the install take longer and it's easy to do afterwards when you can be setting up your computer.
| Hard decisions.... |
I always do complete wipes. If you want to dual-boot or partition...this isn't a tutorial. There are plenty of installation walkthroughs online.
| Make sure you select the correct partition/HDD! |
| Put a ring on it... |
| Select your time zone |
| Who are you really...? |
This is pretty self-explanatory. Options include "log in automatically" and "encrypt my home folder".
| Installing...magic |
That's it, just click through the rest and wait for the magic to happen. When it's done, it will tell you to remove your installation media and reboot.
Welcome to your shiny new Ubuntu 16.04 installation!
